Suicide Blast Wounds 24 in Southern Afghanistan
By VOA
Police in southern Afghanistan say a suicide bomber blew himself up Thursday, killing an Afghan intelligence service officer and wounding 24 other people.
Authorities said the attack happened in the town of Spin Boldak in Kandahar province.
The wounded included at least 16 civilians.
In other violence, an explosion inside a religious school in the eastern city of Khost killed a cleric.
The blasts Thursday come a day after a senior United Nations official said the security situation in Afghanistan is at its lowest point since the U.S.-led invasion toppled the Taliban government in 2001.
