Iranian Foundation Ups Bounty On Rushdie To $3.3 Million

By

Iran’s religious 15 Khordad Foundation has raised its reward for the killing of British writer Salman Rushdie by $500,000 to $3.3 million, the ISNA news agency reported on Sunday.

Rushdie, an Indian-born British writer, was condemned to death in 1989 by Iran’s late religious leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, over his novel “The Satanic Verses.”

The Iranian leader dubbed the novel as blasphemous and offensive to Islam and issued a fatwa (religious edict) calling for Rushdie’s death.

The initial bounty for the writer’s head was $1 million but has been increased several times since.

The reward for the death of Rushdie was increased amidst a wave of riots that swept across the globe after the release of the U.S.-made short film titled “Innocence of Muslims,” although the novelist has nothing to do with this movie.

Actions such as this bounty and the violence at embassies and elsewhere do more harm to the Great Islamic Faith than a motly collection of detractors such as Rushdie, Terry Jones and the Christian Zionists could ever manage.

As such, barking stray dogs can annoy me but they are not at a level high enough that their noise constitutes an “insult”. Ditto the above types: when these two legged dogs “bark” I wonder why any Esteemed Leaders would take the ignorant noise as anything more than a nuisance with NO power to detract from Allah or the Prophet? Or in other words not worthy of the attention that they crave and seek out with their disgusting words.

The US routinely puts a bounty on individuals who do not conform to or resist US values and /or interests. Whether we agree or not with their values, why shouldn’t other countries, cultures religions equally place bounties on individuals who offend against their national, cultural, ethnic and religious values and /or interests.

We may not agree with it but if the worlds leading exponent of democracy, and law and order can undertake such assassisn and if the US president can make domestic political capital as “assasin in chief” why would it be inequitable for other countries and faiths and cultures to emulate US and their allies behaviour ?/
