Libya ‘Halts All Military Action’
By Ria Novosti
Libya declared on Friday an immediate ceasefire in response to a UN Security Council resolution authorizing a no-fly zone over the war-torn country, Al Jazeera reported.
The UN Security Council voted on Thursday in favor of a no-fly zone and “all necessary measures” against forces loyal to Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
Libyan Foreign Minister Mussa Kussa said his government sought to protect civilians and foreigners in comments carried on national television.
“We decided on an immediate ceasefire and on an immediate stop to all military operations,” he said.
Kussa said Libya was “obliged to accept the UN Security Council’s resolutions” because it was a member of the UN Security Council.
